Everything and Nothing – A Personal Journey

Message To IE6 Users

without comments

If you are using IE6 (Help -> About Internet Explorer (or something similar)), it has come to my attention that there are some issues with the markup contained within some of my posts that isn’t being displayed.

While I appreciate that IE6 is still being used by quite a few people, the browser is over 9 years old, having been released in 2001. Aside from age, Microsoft recommend an upgrade directly to IE8 due to vulnerabilities exploited in IE6 in a recent attack on Google from China. So what does this have to do with my blog?

I am not maintaining even conditional HTML for a browser that is no longer supported by even the people who first made and released it. If you really want to continue using IE, then upgrade to IE8. Otherwise, there are plenty of browsers to choose from (past what I’ve linked to from here).

So please, if you’re using IE6, refrain from asking me to support your browser (a browser which its creators no longer support) and upgrade. It’s safer and better for you in the long run to do so. For those of you in a corporation who are still using IE6, talk to your head IT guy and ask him (or her) why they are still support the Swiss cheese of browsers.
